According to political analyst Emmanuel Kofi Nti, Ghanaians are drawn to modest, well-behaved, and nonviolent candidates over those who can best support their presidential candidate as a running mate.

He said the choice of a running partner will be determined by a number of criteria, including age, trust, competency, regional balance, and the party’s impact on succession.

”Ghanaians prefer someone humble and not arrogant, reserved and not violent, and understands issues, so when choosing a running mate, these factors must be considered.”

He was reacting to the squabbling inside the party around Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running partner.

He made it clear that the potential running partner should have a constituency and be able to win over drifting voters.

The party influences the selection of the next running mate, despite the fact that many other considerations are also at work.

He claimed that the NDC, for example, develops the next presidential candidate, but the NPP has no clear strategy other than succession.

He indicated that if Dr. Bawumia were a contender, he may consider the candidate’s age when deciding who would be his presidential successor.

The expert said that the running partner should be dedicated and resourceful in addition to these qualities.

“And particularly because should you win, this person will lead the economic management team. To boost the economy, you need a leader with a variety of perspectives”, he added.
